Job Descriptions

Direct Services Positions
The majority of our staff is employed as Direct Service Workers, providing our clients with help in the consumer’s home and community of choice. The Direct Service Workers positions include:

  • Chore Workers - Chore workers help our clients with chore work in the client’s home. This can include shopping for the client, assisting the client with their laundry, mopping or vacuuming floors, washing dishes, and other common in-home tasks that help keep the client’s home clean and tidy.
  • Respite Workers - Respite workers help the caregivers of our clients get a “break.” Often the caregivers live with the client and provide help 24 hours a day. Respite workers offer the caregiver a chance to get out of the home while the respite workers stay with the client at home playing games, watching a movie, visiting, or just spending time with the client to keep them safe.
  • Personal Care Assistants - Personal Care Assistants (PCAs) help our clients with activities of daily living, such as bathing, grooming, toileting, and other personal care functional activities in the client’s home. In some of our programs, the PCAs must be a licensed Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) or have a State Personal Care Assistant Certification. However, the Consumer-Directed Personal Care Program, one option for clients, allows the client to be a co-employer with our agency and the client can choose to have family, friends, or acquaintances hired as PCAs to work for the client.
  • Training Specialists - These positions are available in Sitka only. In the local Sitka community, training specialists work with individual clients with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) in the client’s home and out in the community. The training specialist helps the client with IDD with supported employment (helps client work as independently as possible as place of employment), supported living (assists client with tasks like shopping and chores in the home), day habilitation (assists client on social and community integration skills), and respite (giving the client’s caregiver a break).
